The elephant in the butte still requires use of your imagination. The water level in the lake is coming up but remains low as indicated by the light line across the bottom of the butte.
The Centennial Celebration for the state of New Mexico begins at the Elephant Butte Dam which was opened to foot traffic for the first time since 9/11. The cake did not meet the requirement since we were anticipating 300 to 500 visitors and the count reached over 3000. Francis and I, along with several other volunteers, as well as local volunteers manned the area as interpreters, guides, drivers, etc. for the day.
