Leaving Denali we drove north and found a spot to spend the night overlooking Healy.
Then after a light shower we had a beautiful rainbow.
Cloud cover ruined any sunset but they (the clouds) were nice
Next day we drove into Nanana. Many of the old houses are used for center for arts and tourist “stuff”
Only native Americans can use a fish wheel in Alaska.
One of our favorite church buildings is this one built in 1905.
The alter cloth is moose skin and is soft as velvet. Am told the native women chew the skin to get this result. The beading is beautiful.
The old railroad station is a museum.
Each year when the Nanana River freezes a tripod is placed on the ice and people buy chances on when the ice will go out. When the tripod tips a clock freezes showing the exact time to the second.
Can’t believe it but most years someone comes up with the exact time.
Found another overlook and spent the night
and did have a nice sunset on Sept. 4.
Sept. 5 we drove into Fairbanks, parked the motorhome at Chena River State park. Decided to go out to Creamer Field to see if Mark was available and if the sandhills had come in.
No sandhill cranes but Mark shared some of his new exhibits since we volunteered here in 2005.
